(Wonderful Philippines Series) Lovable Tarsier- The World's Smallest Primate

Philippine Tarsier, the world's smallest primate found in the province of Bohol in the Philippines. They are so gentle and cuddly and eat insects. They are very tame and gentle but cannot be made pets because they are on the protective list because of the danger of their extinction. They have been around for 45 million years and is one of the oldest known primates to be still living. One of the greatest pride of the Philippines.

One of the greatest pride indeed kaya sana nga maalagaan natin mabuti.

Thanks for this post. It's very informative.. i didn't know na million years ago pa sila.

Happy weekends po =)

They are such cute creatures with googly eyes and long fingers. I hope they survive the 21st Century.

Hi Dorothy,
Yes, they have been in existence 45 million years ago. But they are dwindling because they are disturbed from their natural habitat. They are very cute and tame but also very sensitive and delicate. They tend to commit suicide when disturbed and become disoriented. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Mel Avila Alarilla said...

Hi Dorothy L,
I don't think that would be possible because authorities have already banned their capture and trading as pets. They are in danger of being extinct. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Hi Bambie,
Yes tarsiers also make the Philippines famous. We really have to take care of them or else they may become extinct. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Hi Angelr,
Yes we all hope they survive many more centuries so that our children's children and the future generations can still enjoy them. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

They are very tiny in person. Hubby and I went to Bohol few years ago and it was my first time to visit Bohol and see Tarsiers I was amazed and so my hubby. We even feed them an insect (poor insect hehe). And I hope ma resolve nila ang issue kasi kawawa naman kung maraming tao ang mawalan nang trabaho dahil wala nang tarsier. It really draws many tourist ang lugar na yan kaya sayang din kung walang makita eh famous ang Bohol sa tarsiers and chocolate hills.

Hi John,
I think the best places to visit in the Philippines aside from Donsol of course are Bohol and Palawan. The views there are breath taking and the places have maintained their pristine qualities. I'm sure you and your family will enjoy your stay there. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Mel Avila Alarilla said...

Hi Rose,
Bohol is also high in the priorities list of places I really want to visit in the Philippines. Nakakatuwa talaga ang mga tarsiers. They make us all proud to be Filipinos. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Hi sis Pia,
These creatures are really cute and very tame. They can sleep in your palm. But they are also so sensitive that any unnecessary stress on them can lead them to commit suicides. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Hi Dhemz,
Hindi naman ako nagte take ng insulin. Medications lang to lower my blood pressure. Yun na yung pinaka purpose ko sa buhay ko- To live in order to please Him and give glory to His name. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always my friend.

Mel Avila Alarilla said...

Hi Us,
You said it. Filipinos should be very proud of these tiny and adorable creatures who are so tame they can sleep in the palm of your hand. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Mel Avila Alarilla said...

Hi Kim,
I intend to visit it and Palawan too someday.
Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.

Michelle said...

They are so cute... I saw those when I visited Bohol.. too bad I was not able to hold one... :)

Mel Avila Alarilla said...

Hi Michelle,
Yes, they are indeed so cute. Great that you already visited Bohol and the Philippines. It will be harder for you to hold one if you visit Bohol again because authorities are stricter now because these creatures are very sensitive and are easily depressed and agitated. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless.

joan said...

Actually, I've never see a Tarsier but hopefully I can visit Philippines.

Mel Avila Alarilla said...

Hi Joan,
Actually tarsiers are found only in one province in the Philippines- Bohol. They are already very rare and are already on the verge of extinction. They are extremely sensitive and many commit suicide when unduly provoked. I hope you can visit Bohol before they totally cease to exist. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you always.
