hi, i'm pia. that's it - introducing myself with a big smile on my face. =D is it effective? i guess so. i don't believe in bragging. simplicity and "trueness" of intention are, i think, the key for being "effective".

I make small talk first before introducing myself. By making small talk, you would get to see a hint if they are receptive to talk some more and/or friendly or interested in me. But I always flash a smile even before the introduction

Ha! Lately I introduce myself by saying "I'm Jennifer, ________'s mom." filling in the blank depends on which kid I am at an event for. I rarely meet people in a social setting outside of school and the kids.
